Saudi astronaut will have made a brighter future
The first Saudi woman to voyage into space has made the history books by being part of a team headed to the International Space Station (ISS). Scientist Rayyanah Barnawi was thrilled to say “hello from outer space” from on board the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft. When they get to the ISS, the team of four new arrivals will have joined the seven astronauts already there.
The launch of the SpaceX Dragon now marks the second fully private trip to the ISS. While this was Barnawi’s first flight, she can be confident in her commander Peggy Whitson. Following this visit, American astronaut Whitson will have flown four trips to the ISS.
Barnawi will have spent ten days at the ISS by the end of the mission. The team says in that time they will have conducted twenty experiments that will benefit the entire human race. But that’s not the only exciting new development, as Barnawi sees it. As the first female Saudi to go to space, she sees herself as a role model for her region and says she is representing all Arabs on this trip.
Her personal journey of turning a dream into a reality by going to space is something that Barnawi hopes will inspire people. In a video broadcast from space, Barnawi said and that “the future is very bright”. After Barnawi returns she will have advanced the human experience and she wants people to believe in their potential too.
